Founded in Napier, New Zealand, a global hub for advanced power electronics, Kwetta officially enters the European market with its flagship product, the Prime Grid Gateway. This next-generation charging hardware unlocks contingent capacity within existing electricity grids, enabling rapid electrification for heavy vehicle fleets, bus depots, and chargepoint operators (CPOs).
European operators face significant grid constraints and slowing fleet electrification. Kwetta’s Prime Grid Gateway solves this challenge using advanced, purpose-built power electronics technology that accesses grid capacity previously unreachable by conventional chargers. Connecting directly at medium voltage (MV), the Prime actively manages voltage stability, reactive power, and harmonics, optimising grid efficiency and health while maximising available power. By design, this next-generation hardware eliminates costly grid upgrades or extensive battery storage, significantly accelerating electrification timelines.
Partnering with Z Energy and DSO Powerco, Kwetta has showcased their technology, rapidly upgrading a charging site from 50kW to 500kW in under four months, avoiding traditional grid upgrades costing around €1 million and lengthy delays.
This success attracted industry backing, starting with Z Energy (a subsidiary of Ampol Ltd), one of New Zealand’s largest transport energy companies. Kwetta also secured €9.25 million in Series A investment from climate-tech investors Blackbird Ventures and Virescent Ventures, supporting rapid European expansion.
Kwetta’s initial European focus is the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway, regions with high fleet electrification demand and severe grid constraints. Kwetta is actively engaging European fleet operators and preparing sites for immediate deployments.
Kwetta aims to partner with European logistics hubs, CPOs, integrators, and distribution system operators (DSOs), accelerating sustainable transport across the continent.
